Greyhound Campaign
- 8,000 - 12,000 retired greyhounds are either killed, mutilated or discarded every year in the UK. That is between 20 and 30 animals a day.
- Due to over-breeding, thousands more greyhound puppies that fail to make the grade are also destroyed.
- The Sunday Times recently exposed the scandal of an operation in the North West of England where one man had been responsible for killing over 10,000 greyhounds and burying them in his back garden.
- Currently, the greyhound racing industry does nothing to protect the lives of greyhounds once they become too old to race. This has to change.
You can help with our Greyhound Campaign
We would like everyone to help the RSPCA with their ongoing campaign to improve the lives of racing and retired greyhounds by clicking on the link below and signing their petition. They are asking the government to make crucial changes to the way that the greyhound racing industry is regulated in order to guarantee the dogs' protection on and off the track. You can also read more about their campaign and the amazing developments that have been made with the Animal Welfare Bill.

Ideally, we would also like to encourage everyone to adopt a retired greyhound and give them a loving home, but we know that this is not always possible. You can however sponsor a greyhound, and for just a few pounds a month, you can help to keep them happy and healthy until they do find a new home. There are many wonderful local organisations that run these schemes, and, and most importantly, ensure that a healthy greyhound will never be unnecessarily destroyed.
